COMMISSIONED PAINTINGS FAQ

Q: How much are your commissioned paintings?

A: Commissioned paintings are priced $20 per linear inch for a single subject (person, dog, etc.). Each additional subject adds $1 per linear inch. The linear inch is the circumference around the outside edge of the canvas. Ex: 24” x 24” canvas = 24 + 24 + 24 + 24 = 96 linear inches. So a 24” x 24” painting with one subject is $1920 plus tax.

Q: What’s the smallest painting you will do on commission?

A: I can’t commit to paintings less than 24” on a side.

Q: What if I don’t like it?

A: You pay half up front and the second half on delivery. If you don’t like the final piece, you are not obligated to pay the second half, but I will retain the right to keep, alter, show and sell the painting on my own. Your deposit is not refundable.

Q: What is the process?

A: I prefer to take my own photographs, but for memorial or surprise gift portraits, I can work from your photographs as long as they are well-lit and in-focus. I’ll create a composition based on those images. I’ll send you my sketches for your final approval, and then get to painting. An oil painting is a bit of a mess until its complete, so I prefer not to share progress images (honestly, it will just freak you out), so once we’ve settled on a composition and image sources, I ask for your trust and patience. I will contact you when it is ready for the reveal!

Q: How long does it take?

A: For most pieces, I am finished in four to six weeks. Please plan accordingly; oil paint can be temperamental. The larger and/or more complicated the composition, the longer it will take.

Q: Can you paint other subjects than people?

A: Of course! I’ve painted dogs, cats, even houses. Let me know what you’re thinking and we’ll work it out.
